Info and Reviews on Places to Eat and Drink Around Nevada and the Eastern Sierra

Wanna know where to eat when you are exploring Nevada and the Eastern Sierra looking for that secret hotspot?  Well, go no further.  Below you will find info and reviews on some of the finer eating and drinking establishments in the area.  Most of these are my favorites, though some may be places I have heard good things about.

Walker Burger, US 395, Walker CA 96107, (530) 495-2219 - Walker Burger is one of the few eating establishments between Minden and Bridgeport along 395, and arguably the best.  Walker Burger is known for their burgers, of course, but they have many other delicious items.  My personal favorite are the beer-battered onion rings and the massive shakes.  The shakes are worth a trip for there own sake.  They have dozens of flavors from chocolate to blackberry to peanut butter.  The grounds are also unique.  There is no indoor dining room, but outside there are multiple tables under trellises and sprawling trees and picnic clothes if you just want to sit on the cool grass.  In addition, there are fountains and birdhouses (for sale by the The Bodie Birdhouse Company).  All in all, this is a fantastic place to eat.  It can be busy, but the service is always fast and the staff always friendly.  Walker Burger closes in the winter, but opens in March.  (A little side note:  These guys provided many free meals to the firefighters back in 2002 when this whole area burned bad.  They deserve your business for reasons beyond their good food!)

Rosie's Place, 2881 Hwy 208, Wellington NV 89444, (775) 465-0041 - A nice little mom and pop Mexican restaurant, Rosie's Place is right on the way to the East Walker River.  Rosie and her husband, Juan, serve up authentic Mexican food, deli sandwiches, and an awesome variety of pie.  They also serve breakfast starting at 6:00 am, perfect for stopping by on your way to the river.  Rosie will also make you a sandwich to go and they have a little grocery next door with beer, soda, chips, etc. (no worms).  Despite the usual line up of pickups out front, I have never had to wait to be seated.  Service is fast and friendly and the meals are inexpensive.  Bring cash, though, as last I knew they weren't accepting credit cards.  Don't forget to get some pie.

Sushi Club, 294 E. Moana Lane, Reno NV 89502, (775) 828-7311 - This place is conveniently located in the Independence Square just a few doors down from the Reno Fly Shop on the way to the Truckee River or Pyramid.  Why sushi?  I admit this isn't the most obvious choice, but I love sushi and this place has the best in Reno, bar none!  The fish is the freshest, the portions the largest and the prices the lowest.  The Sushi Club offers all-you-can-eat sushi for $12.95 for lunch and $17.95 for dinner with no time limit.  Buy a membership for $20 and get a t-shirt and $2.00 off each time you visit for a year!  They also serve ala carte sushi, other Japanese dishes and take-out.  Nothing like wolfing down a spicy tuna roll on the shores of the Truckee or out at Pyramid lake.  This place is busy, so sometimes there is a short wait but it's worth it (trust me, I hate waiting).
